Your speakers are out of phase.try switching the wires around on your speakers.

They ''hit harder'' with the trunk open. This is because when the trunk is open the subs r not being ''choked.'' They have the ability to move more air & they have the air to move.

The only way to fix the problem is to figure out how to make ur trunk bigger. Or, lower the resistance of the air at the port. l would position the box so the ports r facing the rear of the car. This will give u the least resistance at the port. Giving u the ability to move more air. Also, it has a kind of amphitheater effect. Making the subs sound louder.

they should be facing the rear/back of the vehicle for best results

Turn your subs around, and check your wires to make sure you have everything wired right.

If you can, put your back seat down, but yeah face the speakers to the back of the car...
